Traditional E-Filing

You can file YOUR tax return electronically without applying for a Refund Anticipation Loan (“RAL”) or any other tax-related product, and obtain YOUR refund from the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) to avoid finance charges. If you file YOUR tax return electronically, you can receive a refund check within 21 days, or a direct deposit to YOUR bank account in as few as 8 to 21 days from the time you file your tax return. If you meet certain criteria the IRS has established a free file program if you plan to file YOUR Federal Taxes on your own.

Free File provides free federal tax preparation and e-file for taxpayers, either through brand-name software or online fillable forms. This year, you have until April 18th to file and pay your taxes or request an extension. To qualify for the free federal tax preparation and e-file your adjusted gross income must be $73,000 or less.

Some participating Free File companies offer free state tax preparation and e-file. Check the company's Free File home page to learn if free state income tax preparation and e-file are available.

Note: AK, FL, NV, NH, SD, TN, TX, WA and WY do not have a state income tax return filing requirement for reporting W2 wage income. Two of these, NH and TN, require taxpayers to file returns for individual interest and dividend income.
